Episode 306: Midsommar/Midnight

It’s late in the summer.  It’s hot.  It’s muggy.  Your mind is weakening with each passing murky day.  Or with each drink tainted with period blood. Such is life when you’ve decided to become part of a cult.

The theme for August is cults.  We start with a trip to beautiful Sweden for their once in a lifetime midsummer event.  You will experience things that you will never forget!

Then it’s back to the states.  We’ll take a gritty, 1980s ride to Pittsburgh where you’d better hope you don’t come across that backwoods Satanic cult family who kills for pleasure…and also for ritual.

Welcome long time guest Jay of the Dead to the podcast.

First up, the 2019 A24 Ari Aster film Midsommar.  This trip to Sweden has been critically acclaimed by not only critics but horror movie fans as “changing the game,” and “taking us to a place where we’ve never been.”

For our older cult film, we will be looking at 1982’s John Russo directed Midnight.  A rare movie in the mold of Night of the Living Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  That low budget grit is perfect for this film.
