Demonic Turkeys, Man-boobs and Gravy Flavored Condoms!

thanks

Peck on someone your own size (Ed note – Ya stay up all night thinking of that one?)! In honor of Thanksgiving, I watched Thankskilling a horror/comedy about a killer turkey. Thankskilling was released in 2009 with a cast of unknown actors. Jordan Downey directed and has just two other movies to his credit (including Thankskilling 3).

The story revolves around five college kids on Thanksgiving break who run into a demonic killer turkey on the way home from school (Ed Note – I hate when that happens).  Car trouble and an impromptu camping trip cause the kids to meet up with this killer turkey. Although they get back on the road safely, the turkey follows them home. Mr. Crazy Foul Mouth — no pun intended — (Ed Note – I’ll be the judge of that) turkey sets about killing the kids.

thanks2The first thing you see when the movie opens is a pair of saggy,  middle aged boobs in a Pilgrim outfit (Ed Note – Ah, just like the Thanksgivings of my youth). That is the last of the lady boobs but if you like man boobs there are plenty of those! This movie was like the most bizarre acid trip you have ever been on. Turkey porn, turkey Leatherface, Alien Turkey, dream sequences, and extra small gravy flavored condoms (Ed Note – That was the greatest list ever assembled) plus bad acting and idiotic lines equal plenty of giggles. There were even a few scenes where the actors seemed to be genuinely  laughing at the ridiculousness of the movie they were in.

With the exceptions of a heart being pecked out and the ingestion of a translucent floating turkey, there wasn’t much blood or gore in the film.  The whole film is a ridiculous mess, but surprisingly entertaining.

dotf_teaserThis week, I also read The Dark of the Forest, by Freaktown Comics. I am not generally a fan of comics and rarely read them but decided to check this out because it is a horror comic. The story is sort of a cross between Friday the 13th and a Bigfoot story. The plot revolves around a group of friends who go on a camping trip. While there, one young man tells the story of a Bigfoot type creature who attacked a group of young people many years prior and killed them all. Of course, his friends do not believe him. I’m sure you can imagine where the story goes next. I enjoyed this comic. It was to me a horror movie in comic form. There was not really much in the way of humor in it but it was a fun and quick read. I would be interested in reading future horror story comics by Freaktown Comics.
