SOUNDS OF TERROR
OK creep fans….This is not a toy again but it always fell into the same FUN category for me….
I LOVED this record soooooo much when I was a kid! This 1974 Pickwick Records story album was chock full of coffin raising sounds and stories!. Some of it is surprisingly shocking for a kid’s record in 1974.
The record gets super creepsville, especially the buried alive story. As a kid, I would listen and shudder with fear. Most of the stories involved torture and pain of some kind -“ Buried Alive”, “Keel Hauled” “Burned At The Stake”, CREEPTASTIC for any kid with a vivid imagination! The tortured screams and the effects are really, really twisted!
This record was way more disturbing than the other Halloween kiddie records, but in an amazing way. I loved all the horror records but this one was always at the top of my pile! Of course the Monster Mash cover was thrown in to sell the record to unsuspecting buyers who thought they were getting the original Bobby Pickett tune. The album sadly probably wouldn’t have sold well without it, but it’s contents were worthwhile even without the hit song. If you find it pick this record up and give it a spin!
(ED NOTE: We can actually listen to parts of this album any time we want because technology!)
