INSIDE

2014-10-07-12-15-00-170035892

I have never been pregnant. I do not want children but if I did, this film may have changed my mind.

images-10Inside is a French horror film released in 2007. The film begins with a car accident between two cars. You only see the occupants of one car; a pregnant woman named Sarah and her husband. Fast forward four months and you learn the Sarah’s husband was killed in the accident and she will give birth the next day. Later that evening, a strange woman shows up at Sarah’s with an evil plan to carve Sarah’s unborn child out of her and keep it for herself. Who is this woman? Why does she want the baby? A fight between Sarah and the stranger ensues and by morning everyone one and everything in the house will be drenched in blood.

images-9This was possibly the most violent film I have ever watched. There is plenty of brutal murder (usually committed with a pair of large sharp scissors). Both women sustain multiple injuries that I would not think it possible to survive, particularly a pregnant woman. There is a scene in the film where it is made clear Sarah’s water has broken. How she kept up her end of the fight without passing out or giving birth is beyond me.What do I know, I’ve never given birth!

What I’m getting at is the film isn’t realistic. It is totally over the top. However, I am okay with that. I really enjoyed this film. I’d liken it to being on the downhill part of a rollercoaster ride for an hour straight. If you love blood and gore as much as the French do and aren’t squeamish —  watch this. It was worth every cent of the $2.99 I paid. There was no nudity and no humor. It was just disgusting and depressing and I loved it!

Episode 113: Frankenstein

frankensteinI was working in the lab late one night…maybe not, but that sentence makes no sense without the popularity of Universal Studios original Frankenstein film from 1931.  It’s October, that must mean it’s time to look at one of the classic Universal Monsters.  This time it’s Frankenstein, whether you are or a smartass who insists on saying Frankenstein’s monster or not!  Join Ron, Little Miss Horror Nerd and Clint the Reckless as they break down this horror classic while talking about how having many peoples’ body parts may mess up your decision making abilities, why Fritz is such an asshole, sympathy for the Monster, scoring Maria’s throwing demise in the pond and backwards choke holds.

NVASION and War of the Gargantuas two of of my fave movies when I was a kid!

8

When the Famous Monsters of Filmland Magazine with Invasion of the Saucer Men on the cover came out, I remembered being kind of scared like they were real. It’s funny today but for some reason these aliens and gargantuas really got to me. No other horror movie character really scared me except the Saucer Men and War of the Gargantuas…. But that’s why I LOVE them so much!

INVASION OF THE SAUCER MEN: The Aliens Scared me…LOL! (also known as Invasion of the Hell Creatures) is a 1957 sci-fi film by American International Pictures (AIP). The screenplay was based on the 1955 short story “The Cosmic Frame”. The film was released as a double feature with I Was a Teenage Werewolf.

WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS: This Film SCARED the POOPERS out of me when I was a kid and no other film ever did as much as this one…Still I LOVED IT!

5The film tells the story of two giant, hairy humanoids called Frankensteins (Gargantuas in the American version) that were spawned from the discarded cells of Frankenstein’s monster from the previous film. A green one raised in the sea named Gaira that is violent and savage, while a brown one who resides in the Japan Alps, named Sanda is friendly and docile. The film follows the investigation and military engagements of these creatures until their climactic confrontation in Tokyo.

The film was released theatrically in the United States by Maron Films where it played nationwide on a double bill with Monster Zero.

So here’s a couple great newer toys from my fave movies that rock!

SUICIDAL KANGAROOS

th-2

I had been looking forward to Wolf Creek 2 since I heard about it. I really enjoyed the first film, so I was interested to see if it could be improved upon.

th-4John Jarratt is back as the frightening , sarcastic and disarmingly friendly Mick Taylor. Mick is on a mission to rid the Australian Outback of foreign vermin as he calls tourists. God knows why British, German, and French tourists are so offensive to him but boy are they ever. The movie starts off with a bang literally when he blows the head off a cop who pulls him over and sets the other on fire. From there he finds a German couple camping in a National park.  He proceeds to inform them there is no camping in this park and they must leave immediately. He offers to give them a ride to another location. Really just an invitation to be murdered. Since it is the middle of the night they politely decline. That’s not the answer Mick was hoping for and it propels him into an attack on the male of the couple. Once this guy is out of the way, Mick goes about preparing to rape his girlfriend.

I will stop here because there isn’t much mystery to the plot but there is plenty of suspense and gruesome murders. I really enjoyed this follow up to 2005’s Wolf Creek. Mick is a creepy and crafty villain and after nine years, I definitely missed him. He is sarcastic, clever, smarmy, unattractive, and physically filthy. He seems to drink a lot and not take showers as well so he likely stinks! (ED NOTE: Just your type!)

th-3By comparison, this film has a bit more humor than the original. There is a truck/jeep chase scene which in the middle of it suddenly every single kangaroo in Australia decides to cross the road. These roos don’t seem to be paying much attention either or they are suicidal because many don’t make it. How they didn’t cause a fatal car accident is beyond me. It was a ludicrous scene but it got a giggle out of me!

Overall this was a successful sequel with an extra helping of guts and gore. Once again, the victims in this film are based on the real life victims of Ivan Milat. Ivan Milat kidnapped and murdered backpackers in Australia during the 90s. There is virtually no nudity in this film.
