PRETTY DEAD

Pretty  Dead is a horror movie released in 2013 and directed by Benjamin Wilkins, known for his work on Flipping Out and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

The story revolves around young medical student Regina Stevens. After a night out with friends, Regina goes into cardiac arrest – possibly due to a drug overdose. She is revived and seemingly suffers no physical damage. However, within a short period of time starts to notice some odd physical changes such as her appetite, inability to sleep and advanced healing process. Regina is disturbed but curious and decides to video diary all her changes.

Eventually she murders and eats several men and is arrested. This film is a variation on the zombie theme told through recovered footage. It does not have big stars, a big budget or even a lot of gore. What it does have is a solid story, told in an interesting way with an actor (Carly Oates as Regina) who though basically unknown completely carried the film.  It is most simliar to the recent film2015-02-04-14-45-43-1569083390 Contracted but I imagine this film had an even lower budget. There was no nudity, little gore, and not much humor. In some ways it may even qualify as a horror drama because it focuses on the emotional toll these changes take on Regina rather than the physical changes and murders.

I enjoyed the movie and would be interested in checking out  future films this actress is in. If you like zombies and found footage or even if you don’t, Pretty Dead currently streaming on Hulu Plus is worth a look.
