Episode 153: Children of the Corn 2 – The Final Sacrifice

coc3Do not be fooled by the word “final.” We move the titular children from Gatlin to nearby Hemingford, but the results are pretty much the same.  Join Ron, Little Miss Horror Nerd and Darien Brock from the Padded Room Podcast as they attempt to survive the second round of children who worship a tasty vegetable. Things discussed include getting a special notation on your license for driving after you’ve soiled yourself, what kind of presents you get for killing your parents, the horribleness of girls in jean shorts, what drug needles are appropriate for killing and whether or not we would continue with sex even if a dead body was near.  All that and more — for one special low price!

Episode 152: Children of the Corn

cocIt’s that time again. Time to start a new franchise.  This time we are hooking up with a bunch of kids in the middle of flyover country, Nebraska.  Do you like corn?  Perhaps some corn on the cob, cream corn or just plain ol’ corn as a side dish.  You will be thinking differently after this podcast.  Join Ron, Little Miss Horror Nerd and Clint the Reckless as they take on 1984’s Children of the Corn. The discussion falls into chaos and subject that are covered include: differences between the movie and the Stephen King short story, giant plotholes, how a society of only kids would work, Clint almost shooting his dad in a cornfield, whether or not Jessica is wearing pants, missed opportunities within the movie, Courtney Gaines vs. Stephen Tyler and the Gatlin being on the cutting edge of ethanol technology. All this plus Ron and Clint taste test Captain Morgan limited edition Sherry Oak Spiced Rum

This week I watched Burying the Ex directed by Joe Dante of Gremlins and Gremlins 2 fame. The film, released in June 2015, stars Ashley Greene, Alexandra Daddario and Anton Yelchin.

Screenshot_2015-07-06-13-00-04-1Burying the Ex is the story of a relationship that has been long dead but one of the people in it doesn’t realize it. We have all been there, people! Max and Evelyn have been a couple for quite awhile though they have little in common with the exception of great sex. Max has become restless while Evelyn has become angry and jealous. Unfortunately for Max, he is a bit of a pussy and can’t seem to work up the nerve to break up with Evelyn. He seems to feel sorry for her and fear her at the same time. Oh boy would Freud would have a field day with these two!

Max finally decides he will tell Evelyn it is over but is let off the hook when she is hit by a bus. He will live happily ever after now! Right? Wrong!

Screenshot_2015-07-06-13-00-21-1 (1)I don’t do spoilers so I’ll stop here but things get pretty crazy from here on out. This movie is described as a horror/comedy and it is but it’s more of a horror/rom com, if that’s a thing. I know that sounds awful but trust me it isn’t.

Burying the Ex has many truly funny moments. It is relatable for the audience. There are also plenty of nods to horror pop culture. I found it to be smart and fun. Anton Yelchin was excellent as nerdy but sweet Max. Ashley Greene was awesome as Evelyn and became ten times hotter when she became a zombie. I also thought Alexandra Daddario and Oliver Cooper were terrific in their supporting roles.

Overall, I really enjoyed this movie. There is no nudity outside of one bare man ass. There is foul language, gore and violence — though not excessive. If you want to watch a fun horror film that will make you giggle this is perfect.

LITTLE MISS HORROR NERD’S RATING: 4 out of 5

Burying the Ex is available to stream on Amazon for $6.99
