Episode 313: The Invisible Man/Bram Stoker’s Dracula

Forget the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Conjuring Universe or any of the copycat money grabbing universes that have popped up in the 21st Century. The first, and in some people’s opinions, the best shared universe was the Universal Monsters from the 1930s-60s.

Time after time after time, filmmakers want to re-imagine perhaps the most famous villains of all time for the big screen. There have been animated versions, comedy versions, gritty rebooted versions, action versions, every type of film you can imagine has had the Universal Monsters involved.

Today is no different, so for the month of March 2020, Ron and Little Miss Horror Nerd look at remakes of Universal Monster films.

First up is a film from just last month that would probably still be in theaters if not for the current pandemic happening around the world, Blumhouse’s The Invisible Man…

invisible

An updated take on the mythology of the Invisible Man, this Blumhouse production was supposed to be the beginnings of a new Dark Universe.  Instead, the decision was made to keep it as a stand alone film.

Second up, from 1992, the all but forgotten star-studded Bram Stoker’s Dracula, a strangely stylistic film that pledges to be more true to the original source material than any of the films that have come before it.

Join Ron and Jessica as they traverse these rough waters of remakes of classic horror!

Episode 312: Happy Death Day/Madhouse

It’s February 2020 and there’s really only one theme you can go with in February and plenty of horror to back it up…birthdays?!

Birthdays is the theme so let’s take a look at the 2017 Blumhouse horror darling, Happy Death Day!  Scream meets Groundhogs Day.  I sincerely hope this means that Ghostface reveals himself to be Bill Murray.

Second on the agenda is from 1981. Not to be confused with the Vincent Price film of the same name, we will be looking at the Italian-American horror film, Madhouse.  A twin sister is killing her sister’s friends leading up to their 25th birthday. How does this early slasher fare?

Who will survive this birthday madness?!  Why are birthdays so dangerous?

In October 2019, Phil Brooks, aka CM Punk, former WWE Champion starred in the paranormal horror flick, The Girl on the Third Floor

Episode 309: US/Doppelganger

For our November 2019 episode of the podcast we are thankful for people how look alike! Or take identities?  Or vaguely kind of is like someone else?

The theme for this month is literally the title of one of the movies highlighted for the podcast: Dopplegangers.

Join Ron and Mr. Universe as they take a look at Jordan Peele’s 2019 flick US as well as travel back to 1993 for a film starring a very young but adult Drew Barrymore, Doppelganger.
