Episode 322: Dr. Sleep/Carrie 2 – The Rage

It’s September — King month.  This year we are looking at Stephen King sequels, whether he wrote them or not. For this particular podcast, we also mark the triumphant return of CLINT THE RECKLESS to the podcast!  It’s been awhile for Clint on the podcast so let’s welcome him back with sequels to two of the greatest horror movies of all time.

First up, the sequel so good, it was written twice — once by Stephen King and once by Mike Flanagan.  We are going back to the Overlook hotel and getting caught up with a fully grown Dan Torrance. Dan’s life has taken a dark turn as his demons have caught up with him, but can he turn things around in order to help a girl fight off the evil RV Club known as the True Knot?! We find out in the 2019 sequel to The Shining, Dr. Sleep

Second up on our agenda from exactly 20 years earlier, a sequel to King’s first book and first movie, Carrie.  We find out a girl named Rachel has similar powers to our old friend, Carrie.  Similar to Carrie she is set up at a big high school party – I bet you can guess what happens from there!

Welcome to September and since this is coming out on the last day of September – say goodbye to September!  We are stepping up our game in October with five (six?) episodes!

Bonus Episode 21: Amityville Awakening

Eight years in the making…not the podcast, not this show, but this movie. Welcome to a very special bonus episode to cover a brand new (kind of) Amityville movie to continue that franchise.   From the very beginnings of this show, we have heard the lore of this new Amityville movie that was going to hit the big screens…but then it got pushed back…and back…and back!

awakeningFinally, in 2017, the movie was released for free on Google Play.  Was it worth the wait? Is it a worthy entry into the Amityville franchise?  Did Jessica soil her underwear? Will Bella Thorne make more than one face? The answer to one of those questions is yes.  I will leave it to you, dear listener, to decide which.

The Walker family has moved into the infamous Amityville Horror house with their braindead family member. Will the house help or hinder the progress of the boys recovery?  Will it claim another family as it’s victims?  Ron and Little Miss Horror Nerd try to get to the bottom of this case in the Amityville Horror House.

Episode 321: The Ranger/Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers

In search for some new slasher fare, our team of zombies pointed us to a Shudder exclusive and a ridiculous 80s horror comedy. They’re not the best, but we love them.

First up, The Ranger is a 2018 independent film purchased and distributed by Shudder. If you listen to this podcast, you probably have Shudder, so you can easily watch this sucker.  It is written and directed by Jenn Wexler and stars Chloe Levine and Jeremy Holm as the titular ranger.

ranger

Five punk kids with no respect for anything find themselves on the lam and end up in a cabin in the woods with an overbearing park ranger who is a stickler for the rules.  I think every horror fans knows where this one is going.

The second half of our drive-in double feature is the 1988 schlock film, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers. Directed by famed B-movie director Fred Olen Ray, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers stars such 80s horror icons as Linnea Quigley, Gunnar Hansen and Michelle Bauer.

hollywood

A cult is afoot in Hollywood. This cult happens to include a lot of hookers and worships chainsaws. No, really. Its up to a hard boiled film noir detective and a runaway teen to take them down from the inside … and see their insides. Lots of tits, lots of chainsaws and Moe from The Simpsons.

Host: Ron Martin

Co-host: Little Miss Horror Nerd

Guest Host: Darien Brock

Episode 320: Kids Horror 3 – Return to Oz/Monster House

Every once in awhile, as a horror fan, we have to step back from the gore.  We have to step back from the language.  We have to step back from the tits.  WE HAVE TO TAKE A BREAK FROM BOOBS!

Sometimes, you have to think of the littles ones (not little boobs, you pervs) — children!  Today The Resurrection of Zombie 7 Podcast presents to you it’s third installment of Horror for Kids!  These are horror flicks that are tame enough for the kids but have just enough bite to make you jump.

Check out our previous episodes:

Episode 138: Horror for Kids – Hocus Pocus/The Monster Squad

Episode 327: Horror for Kids 2 – Goosebumps/Ernest Scared Stupid

Welcome back to the show, Channy Dreadful as we take a look at a movie by the Disney company build as a family movie.  It’s a follow up to an outright classic and it’s an inadvertant show of nightmares.  Let’s take a look at a talking couch, a rotund robot and a headless princess in…

THE WHEELERS!  THE WHeeellllerrrss……..oh……

For our second flick, something a little more tame.  This time we are diving into the field of computer animation of the 21st century.  No headless princesses in this one, just a giant house that literally will try to eat you.  Hence the name…

Show these movies to your kids with this warning: one of the movies has Wheelers.  If you don’t know what a Wheeler is, are you truly a horror fan at all?

Episode 319: The Wretched/The Craft

It’s summertime and for young folks, it’s all about making memories and growing up.  Some might even be “coming of age,” — whatever that random term we have assigned to the times when our hormones outnumber our brain cells and we do really stupid things that we try to forget twenty years later.  There are pictures every now. You will never forget. There’s only one thing you can do. Sit back. Relax. Put on this week’s show as Ron and Jay of the Dead take a look at two coming of age witchcraft stories.

First up, the recent release The Wretched (2020). It was a surprise VOD hit when the world was locked up in their homes searching for new horror.  This story revolves around a kid at his dad’s house for the summer and he suspects something isn’t right with his neighbors.  He is correct. They are witches and they eat children.

Second, a surprise mid-90s hit, The Craft (1996) will be the topic of discussion.  The Craft greatly influenced pop culture as a string of teen witch movies/TV shows followed making stars of the four girls of the coven.

Also, in this episode lots of mini-history lessons about the Salem Witch Trials.

You can find Jay of the Dead on the Considering the Cinema podcast as well as Horror Movie Weekly.
