Heads Up Ghost Busters! The Hasbro Ghost Gun!

1

This thing was before GhostBusters and  was Grrrreeaat! My friend had it! I loved it so much! But….. sometimes it was very difficult talking your parents into buying it when you were playing with your friends all the time anyway…..DARN! I always wanted my own! The ghostly writing on the box alone was worth buying it!  I remember it was a super cool gun and you could shoot ghosts that were projected onto the walls! How much better could it get than this?

5This was a really fun one! I was/am a sucker for glow-in-the-dark toys but this gun took it one step further and actually projected glowing ghosts! You would head for the darkest room in the house, turn out the lights and fire up the Ghost Gun! Soon you were blasting the un-living hell out of un-living things.

The gun, which looks like it was based on a WWII German machine gun (too cool!), was hella hella awesome. It was a major ghost projector. You would insert strips of ghosts on film and they would be projected on the walls where you could blast their protoplasmic bums into oblivion! I frequently played with the gun as a gun, blasting imaginary enemies within earshot and the undead.

Alas, the poor ghost gun has sadly met it’s maker these days, which is why ghosts are running rampant…… Who ya gonna call?

(Ed Note: This article was written and submitted well before the untimely passing of Harold Ramis, but we here are the Resurrection of Zombie 7 Podcast and it’s related entities would like to take the time to recognize Ramis as the comic genius that he was!  Perhaps he is cracking up entities in the Afterlife as we speak!)

THE UPPER FOOTAGE — HORROR OR NOT?!

The Upper Footage is a found footage film written and directed by Justin Cole and released January 31, 2013.

The film revolves around a group of spoiled, rich, New York City kids who bring home a girl their age from a club who subsequently dies of an overdose in their apartment. The main focus of the film is the reaction of these kids to the death of a peer. At least two of kids want to go to the police and the other two are only concerned with getting rid of the girl’s body and not being sent to jail.  What ensues is the total breakdown of all relationships involved.

By the end of the film another of the kids will be dead. The first half of the film is a little slow and we probably didn’t need as much build up but once Jackie dies things start moving. The characters were all despicable and the victim is completely pathetic. They spent the entire first half of the film being just as awful to one another as they are to Jackie. It is as if she is their play toy and not a person. These kids were a bunch of selfish, cruel, cokeheads who had too much money and time in their hands.

TheUpperFootagePosterThe film had a very 80s vibe to it and the kids honestly reminded me of the characters out of a Brett Easton Ellis novel. The Blake character specifically reminded me of James Spader‘s character in Less Than Zero. The film held my attention and I was eager to see how things wrapped up. I did enjoy the film and felt the story in combination with the found footage did have originality.

So is this film a horror film?  I believe it is. I imagined myself in the place of one of the more sympathetic characters and when you do that this film becomes terrifying.  And yes, this could happen and likely happens every day (Ed Note: Another peak in the world of LMHN). As for the marketing campaign that had people believing this was a real case that is nothing new. People thought The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity were real too (Ed Note: Never overestimate the intelligence of the average American audience). I am not sure if it is the found footage element or that people are just gullible. This film had one boob shot and no gore. This is more psychological horror– that is, if you think it is horror at all.

Old Timey Tuesdays 04: Death at Storm House

Welcome to a simpler time.  A time where the sound of wind against shutters could keep you up at night wondering what could be out there.  What could be watching.  Waiting.

Welcome to a time where the dark was darker, the cold was colder and the fear more chilling. Nothing is as frightening as what you can create deep in the black crevices of your mind.  Welcome to…

The Sealed Book was a horror-themed radio show for the Mutual Network that ran from March 18 to September 9, 1945 on Sundays from 10:30 to 11:00 PM.

“Death at Storm House” was the sixth episode having aired on April 22, 1945.

“The story is set in an old New England Mansion named Storm House, perched high on the cliffs above the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Lysette Lester, the young and beautiful owner of the house, is lying in her bed, dangerously ill, while a wild storm rages outside. Lysette was born in a storm and she has been waiting for this one so that she can die in a storm as well. Her husband will receive everything when she dies, including Storm House, on condition that he lives at the house at least six months out of every year for the rest of his life. Lysette also insists that her husband, John, should not remarry. If he does, Lysette tells him, she will be very angry, and further warns him that she is capable of terrible things when she is angry….”

MONSTER-NIKS

6

One of the more cute/fun vintage monster toys from the 1960s/70s is these Monster Nik dolls. These little monster troll dolls consisted of a regular Wishnik/Troll body, molded in green plastic and an awesome monster head.

9I don’t remember what started my monster collection back in the day, just that they were so awesome maybe? At some point, I decided to start amassing a huge collection of monster toys of all shapes and sizes to increase my growing army of toys. My collecting frenzy of monster stuff had no rules. If it was a toy that looked in anyway monstery, be it a space monster, a Universal monster, a fantasy monster, or other type of monster; it was eligible for monster collection membership.

Back in the day, Monster-Niks fit the profile. That still holds true today.

10The Monster-Niks were a killer addition to my collection at the time. They made three different monsters:  Frankenstein, The Wolfman, and King Kong.  All three Monster-Niks came in a variety of colors and outfits. Bootleg figures called Monster Men also exist that look like second tier cheap, naked Monster-Niks but still super FUN. I never was bias as long as it was monstery. Even though Trolls were called Trolls when I was a kid, they were also called Wishniks. So there you go. Wishnik, Monster-Nik, it makes sense, it’s monstery and trollish and although small they pack a punch with huge monster impact! Soooooooo Cool! Sooooooooo Amazing!
