THE FUNHOUSE MASSACRE
This week I had the chance to watch The Funhouse Massacre. I had been dying to see this movie since November 2015. I love me a good slasher flick! It had a very limited release in the theater and just became available on VOD and DVD June 7, 2016.
The story follows a group of kids who have decided to visit a haunted attraction on Halloween. What they don’t know is the scenes are real and the funhouse is being run by a group of serial killers who busted out of the local nut house. Once the first kid of the group is murdered, they realize the bodies and murders they are seeing inside the funhouse are real. They spend the rest of the movie trying to save themselves and the other funhouse patrons from certain death. There is a back story that connects one of the killers to another character but mainly this is just a non stop murder and gore fest.
The movie calls itself a horror comedy and it did elicit some giggles from me. I feel it is a parody at least to some degree because the tropes, stereo typical characters, and gore were all so exaggerated and over the top. There was nothing frightening or serious about The Funhouse Massacre. It was simply 90 minutes of murder, madness, and fun. I also loved that this had quite a few of our favorite horror actors including Robert Englund, Clint Howard and Courtney Gains. There were also a few pretty obvious homages to several classic horror films so keep your eyes peeled.
If you like your horror silly and gory, this movie will be right up your alley.
I’ll end with a few pieces trivia:
Robert Kurtzman is behind the makeup and special effects for this movie which is all practical effects. Robert worked on the Freddy makeup for A Nightmare On Elm StreetĀ 3 and 5. HeĀ is also the K in K.N.B. EFX.
The film was shot at Land of Illusion haunted attraction in Middletown, Ohio.
The Funhouse Massacre is available to rent on iTunes and Amazon.
