THE HALLOW
The Hallow (orginally titled The Woods) is a 2015 British/Irish co-production shot in Ireland. A family of three move into a remote mill house in Ireland. Adam, a conservationist, begins exploring the woods his property sits right next to. He does this against the advice of the locals including his neighbor who insists something in these woods stole his daughter. These demonic creatures (that seem to be based on several different creatures from Irish mythology) are pretty pissed that people are trespassing on their home and they are going to make them pay. It is sort of a home invasion but instead of sadistic humans in masks you get creatures.
I enjoyed this film. The cinematography was beautiful and created a wonderfully spooky atmosphere. I’m not a huge fan of creature features. I liked the idea for these creatures. Paired with the movie’s tone and the suspense it worked.
If you enjoy suspense and supernatural creatures, The Hallow is worth a watch. I will issue a warning though — it starts off slow but once it gets going it’s a speeding train with non stop action until the last moment. There is little gore and death but no nudity or sex. This is meant to be a serious horror film and is also lacking any comedy.
The Hallow is available to stream on Amazon for $7.99.
