Amongst Friends?
Among Friends is the directorial debut of Danielle Harris of Halloween fame. The film was released on VOD and DVD August 27, 2013. It stars Alyssa Lobit as Bernadette. The plot revolves around an 80s themed murder mystery party thrown by Bernadette for six of her friends. The party is unlike any party I have ever been to. With friends like these, who needs enemies. The film started off slow but once the action was underway I was sucked in.
I love me some Danielle Harris so maybe I am not impartial but for a first time director I thought it was a worthy effort. The movie was a Saw/Heathers/Would You Rather hybrid with Kane Hodder in a bit part. That was great but I think he could have been used better. Among Friends does not take itself seriously, so it can be a little ridiculous but it is definitely fun. Danielle is billed as an actress as well as the director but if you blink you will miss her. The run time is 73 minutes which is perfect for me since I have ADD. I rented this movie for $4.99 from Comcast VOD.

I also watched the critter flick Bad Milo released August 29, 2013. Bad Milo stars Ken Marino (Children’s Hospital) and Gillian Jacobs (Community). Bad Milo is a story about Duncan, a nice guy just trying to get by in life. Duncan has a lot of pent up anxiety which has unfortunately manifested itself as an ASS DEMON (yep — that’s not a typo). When that demon gets out all hell breaks loose! I’m not usually a fan of critter flicks (with the exceptions of Gremlins) but I thought this one brought something new to the toilet (Ed note: This bad pun was all LMHN — I had nothing to with it!).
I decided to check it out after reading some positive reviews by a few other horror bloggers. I wasn’t disappointed. Bad Milo is billed as a horror-comedy although you’d be hard pressed to find much that was frightening. Milo was actually kind of cute when he wasn’t eating someone (ED Note: LMHN love of poop demons does not reflect the views of this website as a whole). He was a puppe,t not CG which I imagine was a throw back to the 80s critter movies. This fun little flick had gore, humor and even a few warm, fuzzy moments. I liked Bad Milo and was able to sit through it without checking my phone or tablet. If you enjoyed Slither or Night of the Creeps you will enjoy Bad Milo. Bad Milo is available on VOD or to stream on Amazon. com for $9.99.
