My Amityville Disappointment
Released On: March 15, 2013
My Amityville Horror is streaming on Netflix
My Amityville Horror is documentary film focusing on Danny Lutz of the Lutz Family, the family who was made famous by the Amityville Horror book and movies. The film is about his experience during the month they lived in the DeFeo house (The Amityville House) in 1975. I was really looking forward to this film. I usually enjoy first person accounts of any type of crime or paranormal event.
I found Mr. Lutz arrogant and whiney. His accounts of the paranormal were jumbled and vague. I do not necessarily doubt something happened in that house to those people –maybe it was haunted or inhabited by a demon. Or perhaps it was just mass hysteria. I do not know. The jury is still out for me because I can’t understand why they would leave and default on their mortgage based on an idea that they might be able to parlay the story into fame and fortune.
Danny, however, seemed only to want to use this film as a vehicle to bitch about his stepfather rather than moving on with his life. I was shocked by the Rotten Tomatoes ratings by critics and viewers and wondered if I had watched the same film. I watched the film twice and all I could come up with is a bitter, angry person living in the past and maybe that is all there is.
