Honor House Prod. Corp.  Frankenstein 7 Foot Mail Away Poster

2

NOT A TOY but a HUGE part of my childhood. As a kid, these comic book ads from Honor House were irresistable!! I had this gigantic poster and the skeleton too. I remember being enthralled so much by them — not disappointed like so many. I had a LOVE of all things MONSTER related and this fit into that category like a glove! I do remember being really surprised it was plastic, huge and not a real monster but I thought that it was pretty cool and learned to LOVE it so much. Plastic poster? Hmmmmmmm Neat-o!

1I hung this Hideous, Spine-Chilling, BIGGER-THAN- LIFE 7 Foot Tall Frankenstein Monster in all his Colorfully-Frightening Glory with honor in so many places in my room. I can’t begin to tell you how big a part of my life it was!

Yep, the Honor House Frankenstein and my Aurora Glow Kits! Both the LOVES of my life!

Anyone growing up in the let’s say vintage monster years remembers the gross misrepresentations found in comic book ads. I bought nearly everything they offered – LOL! X Ray Glasses, Dancing Skeletons, Sea Monkeys… you name it. But my BIG fave buy was always my 7 foot roommate.

I loved loved loved growing up with all of those vintage monsters of course. I had monster trading cards stashed everywhere; millions of monster magazines under my bed; and all of the Aurora monster models staring at me at night from atop an amazing monster shelf. I collected anything monster I could get my claws on. Eventually (sadly enough) a lot of it got thrown out by mom over the years. Including (uggggghhh) my giant Franky poster (my lifelong friend).

8Back in the day, the crowning achievement I thought to myself would no doubt be my very own 7 FOOT FRANKENSTEIN! Yes! For just $1 (plus .25 cents postage) they would send me this giant monster that was so realistic, I would probably end up talking to it. I sent my $1.25 and patiently waited for what seemed like FOREVER.

The days turned to weeks, and still, no 7 foot crate arrived with my monster. When it finally arrived I thought to myself….weird there’s no crate…..it’s in this package or is it coming after this package? This has got to be some kind of announcement of its pending arrival, right? After shredding that package open, sure enough, it WAS a monster and it WAS 7 feet tall, but it wasn’t a real monster. In my head, of course, I thought it was going to be a 3-D giant. For some reason, I wasn’t bummed at all that it was just a poster. I remember being amazed that they could make a giant 7 foot monster out of durable polyethylene (probably some sort of super strong futuristic molded plastic) for just $1 WHAT A DEAL!

After hanging that bad boy, I instantly LOVED it! I remember getting a chill whenever I’d wake up at night and see that large figure standing in my room. It really scared the poop out of me on many occasions even though I LOVED it. Did I ever take it down? OF COURSE NOT! I kept that giant up my entire childhood!

I really really really want to get this poster back some day! it’s a great old friend that I miss soooooo much! But in the end I do have to say….the thrill of receiving this thing in the mail with anticipation was well worth the price!
