GRE-GORY, BIG BAD VAMPIRE BAT

He’s The Bat You’ll Love To Hate!

Gre-Gory, the Big Bad Vampire Bat by Mattel, is a toy that I LOVED so much right out of the gates (of Hell of course)! Monsters were where it was at in my youth! Being a HUGE monster fan as a child meant I was loaded up to my gills in monster toys. I saw this in the store back in the day and managed to bag and capture one.  This toy came out in 1978 and though  it was towards the end of the really swell monster years, this still ranks near the top of my list for its size and sheer bloody nature!

AdIt’s amazing features and size puts it well ahead of the pack of usual bat suspects. Gre-Gory has a giant 15 inch wingspan! The fangs of this creature can also hold on like it was biting you. The feet were made so that you could hang him upside down, to frighten anybody that dare pass by.

The feature that has, and had me frothing at the mouth though is the clear chest cavity that allows you to see the blood flowing through its body, when you push a button on the back! Pushing that button allows you to become part of the bloody dripping, oozing and sucking vampire filled FUN!

The Ideal Monster Lab

In 1964, the Ideal Toy Company came out with a killer monster toy: The Monster Lab.  The toy was like a Mad Scientist’s best nightmare! You just can’t beat the hair raising graphics on the box and the plastic toy that mimics Frankenstein’s Lab! If you stared at it real close while playing it was just as good as being in Franky’s Lab! Take a close look at the vast lab equipment, controls, beakers, and machinery. This was visually a monster lovers dream. So Awesome!

The players had to try to keep the monster away from their end of the Monster Lab with the buttons that make him walk back and forth. If the monster reached either end of the lab, he raised his arms, emitted a growl and the mask over his face dropped off and you LOST. A  chilling and electrifying experience!

As a kid I drank this up like blood on a tombstone. It was another favorite for sure. I loved just looking at it. This one had its own gruesome spot on my shelf of all important things monster related!
