This is the AMAZING Hasbro House of Horrors paint by numbers and pencil by numbers box set from 1963. It was a cardboard suitcase style carrying box with handle featuring Frankenstein in front of an old building or castle. The box was done in four colors; grey, white, black & red. It contained three 12″ X 16″canvase panels of Dracula, Wolfman and Frankenstein. In addition, it contained 36 8″ X 10″ pre-sketched style sheets of various more generic monsters for coloring by pencil or watercolor paints.

It is also featured in the Sears 1963 Christmas catalog, pg. 267.  According to the ad, it was exclusive through Sears. Cost was $3.97!

WOW! Did I love paint by numbers! I always loved the look and I loved painting them! My parents loved these kits too because they kept me super busy and after I painted them they became artwork for my walls, so they had less posters to buy! LOL!

My fave sets were these MONSTER ones! The artwork on the box covers were SUPER amazing and the fact that they were monsters fit right into my monster sensibility and into my monster clutches!
