AMERICAN HORROR STORY TRIVIA

We are still four months away from the premier of the fifth season of American Horror Story. I’m getting my fix in the form of some trivia regarding the show. I scoured the Internet looking for the best tidbits just for you, my wonderful readers!

Murder House – Season 1

1. The house in this season is a real home called the Rosenheim Mansion. It has been used in other TV shows including Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

2. Murder House used horror film scores for its soundtrack that include PsychoInsidious and Carrie.

3. The Black Dahlia character from this season (Mena Suvari) was a real woman. Her name was Elizabeth Short. She was an aspiring actress and sometime sex worker. Her dismembered body was found in Los Angeles in 1947. The case remains unsolved today.

4. Taissa Farmiga was 16 when she filmed Murder House.

5. Evan Peters had to use lubricant to get into his rubberman suit.

Asylum – Season 2

6. The Briarcliff Manor was originally a courthouse. It is now a museum. It is located in Orange County, California.

7.  Alma and Kit Walker were based on a real couple. Betty and Barney Hill were a famous interracial couple. They claimed that they were abducted by aliens in the 60s.

8. Evan Peters wore a cock sock for a scene in which he is caned by
Sister Jude. He accidentally gave Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson a free show during the filming.

9. Ryan Murphy has said that Briarcliff is loosely based on Willowbrook State School. Willowbrook was a real school for people with mental disabilities. It was closed down in 1983 after the patients were discovered living in horrific conditions.

Coven – Season 3

10. Miss Robichaux’s Academy is known as the Buckner Mansion and is located in New Orleans. It was originally a business school. It can be rented by the night for $5,000 per night.

11. The Axeman was a real serial killer. He was active in New Orleans from May 1918 to October 1919. He was never caught.

12. The Supreme is revealed in the opening credits of each episode. One of the actress’s name cards shows an image of Santa Muerte. Santa Muerte is known as the lady of seven powers. The Supreme must be able to perform the seven wonders. Are you one of the viewers who picked up on this spoiler?

13. The Papa Legba character is a real entity in Haitian Voodoo.

14. Kathy Bates plays Madame LaLaurie, a socialite and serial killer who keeps slaves. This character is based on a real woman. As it turns ou,t Miss Bates’s great grandfather was the personal physician of Andrew Jackson who lived next door to Madame LaLaurie.

Freakshow – Season 4

15.  Kathy Bates characters in Season 3 and 4 have both died by decapitation.

16. Ben Woolf who played Meep was a teacher in real life. His appearance and small stature were as a result of pituitary dwarfism and chemotherapy. Sadly, Ben passed away last year from a head injury after being hit by a car.

17. Jessica Lange’s character played a carnival operator. In real life, carnival operators were always men.

18 Freakshow was set in Jupiter, Florida and filmed in New Orleans. In real life, Jupiter has never hosted a sideshow. The town actually being referenced is Gibsonton, Florida. This town is home to retired carnies. They are the only town with a post office that has a counter made for dwarves. The town is also zoned for elephant parking. Gibsonton has been shown on shows such as The Glades and X-Files.

Hotel – Season 5 and beyond

2015-05-26-16-27-49-61527217919. Rumor has it season 5 will be set at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. The hotel has a horrifying past. In 2013 Canadian student Elisa Lam was discovered dead in the hotel water tower. Past guests include The Black Dahlia and serial killers Richard Ramirez and Jack Unterweger.

20. There is a spin off in the works called American Crime Story. This will be an anthology series that focuses on true crime stories.
